Hamilton, ON, January 20, 2014 – Hamilton’s very first Patients’ Choice Award was held Friday at a ceremony hosted by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Hamilton patients were given the opportunity to nominate their physician for a Patients’ Choice Award.
“On behalf of all of us at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, I want to congratulate all of the physicians who were nominated for the Patient Choice Awards,” says Dr. David Higgins, President of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. “These very prestigious awards from patients we serve recognize the dedication, science and compassion our region’s physicians bring to their practice every day.”
Dr. Eldon Tunks and Dr. Trevor Kwok were nominated by their patients for the exceptional care they have provided and for their commitment to enhancing the patients’ overall experience within the health care system.
Dr. Eldon works at the Hamilton Health Sciences Regional Rehabilitation Center in Pain Management and Psychiatry. He has been teaching and practicing in Hamilton for over 35 years. His patients describe him as kind, caring and passionate about his work. Dr. Eldon helps his patients manage their pain, providing them with the support they need to live comfortable lives. Dr. Kwok has practiced family medicine for 22 years and currently practices in Stoney Creek. His caring and compassionate bedside manner is not only reserved for his patients but extends to their families as well. Dr. Kwok often goes beyond the call of duty to ensure his patients are front-and-centre.
“I want to congratulate Dr. Tunks and Dr. Kwok on receiving the Patients’ Choice Award. The level of care they provide and the commitment they have demonstrated to their patients is a true testament to their impact in the Hamilton and Stoney Creek communities.”
Scott Wooder, MD, President of the Ontario Medical Association
“There is too little public awareness of good instances of the care that patients receive from their physicians and we want physicians to know that we appreciate their commitment to hearing and listening to the patient voice. By nominating special doctors, patients have made their positive experiences count as they are the fundamental basis for bringing about change to our health care system.”
Dr. Sholom Glouberman, President of Patients Canada (formerly the Patients’ Association of Canada)
