Patients Canada has selected two important areas on which we will focus our efforts to bring about positive change. Both home care and end of life care have become increasingly more important as our population ages. Yet, these services are in dire need of being improved and strengthened to reflect the practical needs and preferences of recipients.
Palliative Care and Medical Assistance in Dying
Most Canadians want to die at home. Yet, nearly 70% die in hospitals away from loved ones. Patients Canada is focusing on improved palliative care services that better meet the preferences of individuals.
Home Care
Canadians look forward to receiving more care in the home as they age. Yet, recipients of home care experience delays, rationed care and little control over services they need and want. Patients Canada is focusing on more flexibility of home care services and greater choices and options for recipients.
